The start of this episode, a woman goes to start a Lamborghini, and it blows up.

What they show blowing up is actually a Citroen DS (because it looks so similar to the Lambo?):

They then show a burnt-out shell of the Lambo, but it looks like a different model:

^Burnt out shell - Is that maybe a Lancia Monte-Carlo (Scorpion in the US)?

Front end is too pointy for a Lancia Scorpion. It looks more like a mid 70's Maserati.

Still trying to wrap my brain on the Espada/Citroen connection. How did any editor think one could be confused for the other?

Poor Citroen. I think it deserves to be listed ?

1971 Espada 400 GTE S2 due to wheels, side mirror and dashboard shape.

I catched nice Espada cruising thru German A9 autobahn in September 2009:

I mean, it goes by pretty fast, and this show wasn't really made for people who have an eye for cars.

Either way, the Citroen explosion is another thing to add to my "where did that scene come from" search list.

Only one listed like that on the database. Not wrong but mostly forgotten designation, Series II is enough like the rest.

I think the barbecue was also an Espada.

It was. Unfortunately.

So this sequence with the Espada is very weird. You can watch the whole episode here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNVYWjKzTY0 and you'll see that later in the episode when Hunter and McCall go to the house where the Espada supposedly blew up, it is actually a wrecked, burnt-out Espada in the background. However, they are very obviously in a real driveway at a real house so it would have been impossible to actually blow the car up there.

All I can figure is that the producers had access to a burned-out Espada, so they sourced the nice one at the start to shoot the beginning, used whatever piece of stock footage that is of the Citroen exploding for the part where the bomb goes off, then put the Espada wreck in the background for the later shots. The weird thing, though, is that they only show it in the background and you have to pause and look carefully to see that it actually IS a wrecked Espada. I would have thought that they'd have filmed it more prominently to show it off since they had it.

They may have actually filmed it more prominently but it was edited out. The thing with tv shows is that contrary to film they have a very strict duration requirement. If they kept this whole sequence they would possibly have to cut something else perhaps more important? And then there's the usual "pacing" that cuts scenes anyway. This is only a guess though as I have noticed things like that myself in other series.
