1973-1974 K-Series Custom Deluxe "Fleetside."

Anybody know what model it might be exactly?

Indeed it does, thanks a lot. It confirms that this is a K-30. The trim would only be Custom as I forgot that it was later changed to Custom Deluxe (I believe in 1975).

According to GM’s documentation, they are adamant that the 30 Series was not available with four-wheel drive until the 1977 model year.

So, I’m guessing perhaps this was a lifted two-wheel drive, or perhaps was there a conversion company that outfitted earlier 30 Series pickups with four-wheel drive? Sort of like those that convert the modern Ford E-Series van (only available as a two-wheel drive) to four-wheel drive?

Here is a 1977 General Motors "in-depth" sales & specification document, showcasing the rounded-line generation’s 4x4 systems and features. See page six of the brochure.

In that case we should label this one a C-30 then. It had to have been lifted after.

I found the film on YouTube (as I don’t have a copy here at home) and made a quick snap cap of the pickup.

It does have a Dana/GM Corporate 10-bolt hypoid live drive axle, with front conventional differential offset to the correct side. But that axle was used on K-10 and K-20 pickups, pretty much confirming this 30 Series pickup started life as a rear-driver.

Perhaps it was converted to four-wheel drive out of necessity. I’m sure it was given a two-speed dual range transfer gearbox, likely also from a K-10 or K-20.

Also the suspension ride height is still not factory, and begs the question: why would an airport need a lifted truck?

By far and away an interesting specimen...
