Is that two-tone color or faux woodgrain?

Nice find in our market :sun:

1971 Opel 1900 Wagon in the US I guess?

Ingo DE

Sorry Ralph, it's no Ascona. It's a Buick Opel, originally a Kadett B Caravan with the front of the 1968 "Olympia"-edition.

wasn't this just sold simply as Buick/Opel or Opel by Buick here?

Sunbar UK

Make: 'Opel' sold by Buick (or GM's 'Buick-Opel' dealers).

:hello: folks! 1971+ Opel 1900 Wagon is not correct! :no: It's not the US-version of the Ascona Voyage, it's the based on the Kadett B.

You're right, Ingo. These were sold as Opel Kadett in USA as well. Maybe they used a special name for the 'woody'?

Did it really had wood-veneer on the side or was it just a sticker?

It's not wood, it's just brown paint.

It would be a sticker if it's anything at all other than brown paint.

I saw an old magazine ad online referring to a vehicle just like this as an "Opel Kadette Caravan." Is that what this would be?

Ingo DE

Yes, it is an Opel Kadett (without "e") Caravan, to be exact a Kadett B. Caravan is the name for Opel-wagons,

Other US models on the site are listed as "Deluxe Wagon"

I am also curious to know what these are officially called as well.

I have a 1958 Buick Magazine Advertisement that states:

"The unique OPEL - The Imported car made by General Motors in Germany - can now be ordered in Sedan and Caravan Wagon models through authorized Buick dealers"

So I am now wondering if they did call them "Caravan Wagons"

In 1958 there was no Kadett... Opel built the Rekord [P], and these as well were sold in the USA.

@tonkaTRACKER:

In Germany Opel names their Wagon-versions usually "Caravan". Volkswagen-Wagons are "Variant", Ford's "Turnier", Skoda "Combi" (as Borgward did, too).
"Kombi" is the common term for Wagon's in the daily speech - but not always. Some people, who are used to drive VW since a long time, are saying "Variant" to the Wagon-versions of other brands, too.

@ingo

Yes I know about the Wagon names in other countries but I was wondering if Buick marketed the Opel Wagons as Caravan Wagons here in the US as well, maybe to make them sound more European.

The term "Caravan" for a Wagon was an Opel-idea, an Anglizism-word in the meaning of "This Car is a Van" (because it has so much space).

Btw. "Caravan" has annother meaning in German. It's a word for a camping-trailer. "Caravaning" is the hobby to travel around with a camping-trailer.
