Neptune ◊ 2009-11-03 03:03	1981-1982 model, GMC C-1500 (2-wheel-drive ½ ton) Sierra Wideside 4-wheel-drive models had solid front axles which later became available with "auto locking front hubs" (the front hubs would lock automatically when 4-wheel-drive was engaged, to allow the front wheels to be driven by the front differential without the need for the driver to get out the truck and lock them manually) 2-wheel-drive models had independent front suspension (IFS) as the one in the capture has. An automatic "locking rear differential" was optional (with a "open rear differential" as standard) on both 2 and 4 wheel-drive models for a near extra $300.00 The optional locking rear differential would "lock-up" both axle shafts to prevent traction loss, transferring more than half of the supplied torque to the wheel with most traction.
