1964 for sure. |

The slightly taller fins and vertical housings below them suggest 1963, although the photo is a bit too blurry to be absolutely certain. (Also, beware. The 1965 Series 75 used 1964 styling. All other lines used the new 1965 bodies.) -- Last edit: 2009-08-29 16:28:23 |

True, Series 75 and commerical chassis utilized the 1964 bodies for 1965 model year. The image provided by vilero shows pointed rear nacelles for the tail lights which would mean 1964 at the earliest. |

I've seen 1965 commercial chassis models that use the '65 bodies though. I suggest the book "Classic American Ambulances: 1900-1979 Photo Archive" by Walt McCall and Tom McPherson, and direct you to pages 92, 93, and 94, where you'll find three Cadillac-Superior ambulances that don't have 1964 bodies. -- Last edit: 2009-08-30 19:53:57 |

I've seen reference to such and even my copy of "The Standard Catalog of American Cars" shows a photo of a funeral car with a '65 Cadillac front end. However, published written sources (including the SCOAC) seem explicit that the 75 Series continued 1964 styling. Now, the SCOAC does not address commercial units such as ambulances and funeral cars in the written text, just the Series 75 sedans and limos. Could Cadillac have used '65 stying on such commercial units and '64 styling on limos? Seems unlikely, but I guess that would be a possibility. -- Last edit: 2009-08-30 21:25:43 |

There's always the possibility they could've used both. It wouldn't be unheard of. From 1973 to 1984, GM used both the 1967-72 C-Series cowls and the 1973 or later C-Series cowls on their Chevrolet and GMC school bus chassis. When they changed them in 1988, the kept the 1973-type cowls on them for a couple of more years, while selling the new ones at the same time. -- Last edit: 2009-08-30 23:10:21 |

One more possibility. Could Cadillac have begun the 1965 model year using the '64 body, then switched to using the'65 style during the year before the '66's were introduced? |

Link to a nice source of Cadillac photos. Scroll down to the 1965 section to see a '65 limo carrying 1964 styling. Link to "images.google.com" |

The Fleetwood 75 limo, yes. But that says nothing about the '65 Commercial Chassis, which is what ambulances and hearses were built on. In answer to your previous question though, yes it's also possible that the commercial chassis were changed to '65 styling in mid-season. |

Very interesting topic. Have enjoyed it as much as the "My Favorite Martian" '55/'56 Chevy debate! |

Indeed, seems unlikely, but that's exactly what they did. The Fleetwood Series 75 retained his 1964-styling during the 1965 model year, the commercial chassis was redesigned and showed complete 1965 appearance. |

Thanks for clearing that up, Animatronixx! |

Did a bit more research (including on this site!) The '64 and '65 Series 75 were different in one respect - the wheelcovers. The '65 had a broader center section than did the '64. The photo is not good but appears to have the smaller center wheelcovers = 1964. |
