The rear window and trunk line appear that of a 1950 or 1951 Buick Sedanet/Jetback, so I suppose this custom was based on a 1950 or 1951 Buick Sedanet/Jetback , series Special/Super/Roadmaster hard to tell here.Only way to tell would be someone still having that copy of Rod and Custom.

Those headlights tell me that they belong to either a 55-56 Plymouth or 56 Lincoln. I would also say the back resembles a Studebaker or a Packard, more precisely, a Packard Hawk.

1950 Buick Sedanette owned and built by Bob Metz of Shelbyville, Indiana. The car is also known as the "XM105". Bob sectioned the body 5 inches and chopped the top 3 inches. The entire front end assembly including the cowl and windshield were thrown away. The door posts were removed, and a 1955 Buick top and windshield were crafted on to the narrower 1950 Buick body. The most eye catching feature of the car are the outward slanted tail fins. The exhaust tips are routed through modified Ford taillights. Up front, Plymouth front fender sections were grafted to the Buick fenders. Two halves of a 1935 Chevrolet grille were mounted horizontally. By lowering the chassis 6 inches, the overall height of the car was 4 1/2 feet.

In 1957 the XM105 was chosen as "Custom Car of the Year" by the readers of Motor Life Magazine.

Bob Metz Buick was used in the 1960 movie production of H. G. Wells classic The Time Machine.
