I'm not at all sure (picture ratio seems to be too wide), but I think this could be a 1960 Hillman Minx Series IIIA convertible. Ther is a link to Studebaker, btw: Raymond Loewy's studio helped with the design of both... |

I think it's a Sunbeam Rapier. Like this - http://www.carboys.co.uk/images/sunbeam%20rapier.jpg -- Last edit: 2009-06-26 15:43:33 |

Ha, Big Dave, once again we're thinking in the same direction But the Rapier had a wider and more prominent grille... |

Hiya Mike. I know some Hillmans had divided grilles but this car's center goes above the grille line into the hood. Also this looks like a hardtop with the unique rear windo which was only available on Rapier, not Minx or Gazelle. I thought the picture I included shows the more sedate grilles of later Rapiers. -- Last edit: 2009-06-26 16:41:42 |

None of the Rootes cars to use the Audax design, Hillman Minx or Sunbeam Rapier IMHO. Irrespective of the aspect ratio, by the wheel arch and head-light proportions compared with the car's size it is larger than the UK cars and is an American small to medium sized sedan or hardtop. The grille looks to me to have a horizontal bar above which is a central round projection which also has a matching cut-out in the hood. I don't think its any Studebaker but cannot identify the car myself. |

![]() Another, lighter, copy of the captured shot. There are no tail-fins and the front grille is just visible showing one central horizontal bar with something above it, rather than three separate grille elements as in the Rapier. it does appear to be a two-door coupe by the bright spot (handle?) but the 'C' or 'B' pillars are not seen. |

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I see a small chrome piece that would be the start of a fin and the rood C pillar sure looks the shape of a Sunbeam hardtop to me. |

But the Rapier had a wider and more prominent grille...
