Bobbie Tucker: Look, there Kip Pullman. He's so neat. Say something to him when we go by.
Curt: What do you want me to say?
Bobbie: Anything, I just want to meet him.
Curt: Hey Kip, buddy! What's up
Kip: Hey Henderson, long time no see. What you been doing?
Curt: Nothing. I just wanted to tell you Bobbie here is madly in love with and trembles at the sight of your rippling biceps!
(Bobbie pulls the Beetle over)
Bobbie: Out of our car!

Should 300 be part of the model name?

Yes, the Custom 300 had an annodized aluminum insert, whereas the base model for the entire Ford corporation, the Custom, did not.

I was driving this car in this scene - though it wasn’t my car! I had gone up to Petaluma with my dad’s black 1956 Chevy (seen in a few other scenes). Some of us were just parked along the boulevard, waiting to be summoned for a shot. For some reason I was chosen to be plunked into this Ford which I’d never seen before. It wasn’t easy. The brakes had a slow fluid leak, so as I tried to hold my position across from the VW, the pedal would slowly sink to the floor, and I had to pump it. George Lucas and the camera crew were shooting from a small flatbed ahead of us.

The actor in the car with me was Ed Greenberg, and his memories of this scene can be read at:

Here’s a close-up of Ed and 17-year-old me.
