Coachbuilder Deutsch of Cologne/ Germany built them. What I have never seen, is a Deutsch convertible based on a Commodore A instead of a Rekord C. Je crois pss que c'est une Coachbuilder Deutsch of Cologne. En effet, il y a toujours la goutière à la porte avant provenant du coupé, alors que les vrais décapotables n'en ont pas. |

Big surprise: the car still exists! It is registered as a Commodore GS Cabriolet. First date on the road 12 September 1969 (so model year 1970). Last owner has got this car since 3 May 1999. (RDW checked). |

Actually the Engineering work was done by Crayford Engineering of the UK who sold the license to manufacture in Europe to Deutsch -The first car they converted was in 1969 and shown in one of the European Shows and in 1969 I have documented an advert which advertises Rekord and Commodore conversions! - I never seen a photo of one in the UK prehaps only 1 was built there! - Here is reference to the advert see 6th November 1969 Autocar (GB) Page 89 Volume 131 Issue # 3847 -Commodore is shown in the publicity photo - cars were distributed by Rolf Romsley (a dealer) ph 3185 also available in the 4 cylinder Rekord (I documented all Autocars from cover to cover Sep 1947 to June 8th 1975!) |

@CMR - Very interesting. Any chance you can scan the Autocar advert and upload it?? AFAIK Crayford never offered this openly in Britain, so I doubt if they built more than one. Rekord and Commodore (incl GS) were available in UK in 69 but poor sellers so Crayford would not have seen the UK as the main target - maybe it was a commission from Deutsch?? |
