This is because demand of subcompact sedans in Indonesia isn't much popular, even in the 2010s, due to several factors such as the pre-2022 Sales Tax on Luxury Goods scheme, which hindered the sedan bodystyle at that time, even in smaller sizes. This was the reason why Kia chose not to sell the sedan version of the Rio to civilian consumers in favor of the hatchback version (as already interviewed in the linked article above). Even its sibling Hyundai at that time did this too (fourth-generation Accent hatchback sold as the Grand Avega, over the related Accent sedan sold as the fleet-only Excel III).
