The interior shots from this response scene. Suppose to be in UK with same car but I'm really doubt. LHD, maybe it's worth extra page... ![]() ![]() |

- 310 HJJ is Wolseley 6/110. London, Dec 63 to March 64 - "The interior shots from this response scene" - glad you've solved this as I was disappearing down rabbit holes such as Daimler Majestic - "LHD, maybe it's worth extra page... " - Austin A110 Westminster. 901 DGJ was London Feb 62 to Jan 63 "Home Delivery Export Scheme" so LHD understandable for something like a BAOR car in Germany. Never understood why London police always used Wolseley 6/99 and 6/110 - Westminsters were cheaper and had same engines and oily bits. |

Perhaps because the Wolseley badge meant better prestige, perhaps they were used to drive Wolseleys since previous models or perhaps they got a better deal from Wolseley than from Austin? When I did my military service in Sweden in the early 1990's, I heard that the Swedish Army got an amazing deal from Volvo. They bought a huge badge of Volvo FL 10's and got 1/3 off! |

Maybe something like that - Met had used Wolseleys since the dawning of the Age of Aquarius so it probably just stuck over the centuries. Wolseley was on the Morris side of the BMC divide until the mid-60s, so switching to Austins would have caused huge uproar, plus they used lots of Minors, Morris LDs and similar so the allegiance was entrenched. Other forces elsewhere used Westminsters - particularly for early motorway patrol duties as the network spread - but Ford Z-cars and Jags were their main weapons of choice; Met also moved on to Jag S-Types mid-late 60s - faster and less barge-like than the Wolseleys. |
