a Lancia I guess? Astura? Artena? |

The over-riding recognition point for all Lancias of this era is the sliding pillar independent front suspension which was fitted to all of the cars from the 1921 Lambda until post world war II cars which latterly used different systems. The car in this picture has semi elliptic leaf springs and a beam front axle, and is therefore not any breed of Lancia known to me, and certainly neither an Artena nor an Astura. |

Jean-Marc has made a guess at what he thought the car to be, and I, in a rather graceless manner for which I apologise, have suggested reasons why I think this is not correct. However, I have made no attempt to suggest an alternative and have spent the last hour or so thinking about the answer. The car carries French number plates, and the French were not great importers of other countries' makes as they felt that their own cars matched the requirements of their road system better. If we accept that this car is French, we can eliminate the big makers straight away. The only other one that I can suggest from looking at my incomplete collection of books is Mathis, and this car could be the 1927+ 1.2 litre Model MY. If not, I think we should look east, and that opens a whole new can of worms. |
