Let me take a look at this KE20 Corolla sake that appeared here in Indonesia; while the other existing Indonesian KE20 (including one KE25 coupe) we currently have prior to this was listed as 1972 with Indonesian built tags here, it's actually 1971 (its original general export model year) WITHOUT the Indonesian built tag. It is proven by several local sources I've found, mainly those forgotten leftovers prior to the first aforementioned entries; looks like NissanSilviaKs pulled out sources about the locally-built models produced starting from the 1972 model year, which I find it not necessary at all. Beside, we'll never know if the Indonesian automotive industry have a different VIN system than others (such as the same 10th digit letter carried over for the entire 12-month span of a year, or a dead '0' digit), or actually uses frame number for the most of their vehicles. To add this better, Toyota Astra Motor started the production of the E20 series here by December 1971. No way that TAM would instantly build the car locally here shortly after Toyota themselves debuted the E20 series globablly nor even during the time when Toyota have started exports of the E20 series to overseas markets, since TAM have to set up the tooling of it first from their principals in Japan, which takes a very long time, hence earlier KE20 sedans (probably including the KE25 coupe) were distributed as imports first. Call that as one of those unrealistic timings. For more information, here are the sources in question: Liputan6 = "Toyota first brought the Corolla to the country in 1970..."; implying 1971 MY Moladin = "The Toyota Corolla started its journey in Indonesia in 1970..."; implying 1971 MY Mojok = Correctly mentions 1971 EDIT: I posted my example of how Indonesian models should listed correctly by default. -- Last edit: 2025-07-19 12:06:43 |
