To give a bit of context, I recently found out that shortly after the discontinuation of the Isuzu Gemini here in the Philippines, local taxi operators needed diesel cars to use as taxicabs. The second-generation Gemini wasn't that popular with cab operators for some reason, compared to the first-generation ones. And by the 1990s, these first-generation Geminis were beginning to be phased out as they neared the end of their service life. Sure, there were Toyota Corollas and Mitsubishi Lancers here already, both of which started local production around 1988-1989. They were a bit too expensive for many cab operators at the time, given the fact that the local economy was still struggling to keep up after the recession back in 1986. So, instead of importing used Isuzu Geminis from Japan, which would make the importing process costly as these needed to be converted to left-hand drive, per local laws, they imported used Hyundai Stellars and Ponies as substitutes. South Korea has its steering wheel on the left, so the amount of work needed was significantly less compared to importing Isuzu Geminis from Japan. The taxi sign on top is a dead giveaway that this car is indeed from South Korea. Ours don't look like that.
