Windowed version with lots of seats apparently called Hijet MPV here, arrived March 96; 1.0 replaced by 1.3 in Aug 98 as discussed here for a 1998 which also says So is this another Italian build?? |

checkhistory.uk says it's Japanese built. Strangely, it's listed as Daihatsu unknown, which made me think of a JDM Atrai at first, but in 1996 it was already replaced by the [S100] model, and moreover I don't think JDM models ever got the 993 cc unit ![]() Anyway, when checkhistory omits the model name and the car is stated to be built in Japan, it's usually a JDM car, but I don't think this is the case ![]() -- Last edit: 2024-05-01 00:40:06 |

I can try for the chassis/VIN in a bit. |

Great, this will clarify everything |

^ maybe it will also clarify the intriguing cardotcheck claim of "Consumption mix: Infinity mpg"?? |

ZAPS85V0000110588 - not JDM. I can't get much off of the VIN but the site does say it was registered 9/96. This is a late registered 7th gen by the VIN. S8X is 1986-1994. Not a 1995+ model by that fascia either. Actually might be a 1996. Link to "www.onlinecarparts.co.uk" -- Last edit: 2024-05-01 02:13:36 |

Useful clue. I'm only able to make sense - or try to anyway - of what wiki says, but it leads us a bit closer. If you go to the wiki Hijet page it says 7th gen was also made in Italy as the Piaggio Porter, and if you go to the Porter page it says UK got Italian Porters badged as Hijets (and these were facelifted in 98 to get the 1.3, as our other example is listed). Which seems to solve that issue. |

Yes, ZAP is an Italian VIN, and indeed the 7th generation Hijet was built here since late 1992 until 2021 (with many facelifts), as the Piaggio Porter (until 1997 the passenger version was sold as the Innocenti Porter, we don’t seem to have any, if not hidden). It was also available (at least in Italy) with a Lombardini 1.2 diesel engine and later on in LPG, CNG and electric versions, and it spawned also original variations like the Quargo. Not sure if any other European country got Daihatsu-branded Italian-built models other than the UK, but it seems mainly it was exported as Piaggio. -- Last edit: 2024-05-01 13:33:00 |

Have weeded through our UK 92+ Hijets and updated accordingly - vans as [S85], and MPVs as [S85V] (we now have 6). |
