DynaMike ◊ 2009-07-06 22:14	I don't think they were mandatory in GB. They were allowed in France, in Holland and I guess in most European countries in the 60s. (My parents Hillman Super Minx had them, and our Renault Dauphine, that we bought in France, as well).

chris40 ◊ 2009-07-06 23:00	Until fairly recently no kind of exterior mirrors were obligatory in GB on private cars AFAIK. I never saw the point of fender-mounted mirrors anyway; you could hardly see anything in them. I fitted (clip-on) door mirrors on my 1960 A40 long before they became common. Re fabric sunroofs: British firm Webasto, for one, would fit them to virtually any saloon. -- Last edit: 2009-07-06 23:02:00
Sunbar ◊ 2009-07-07 00:26	Since the mid-1960s the only requirement for UK cars were for estates/wagons or similar cars where the load area could obscure the rear-view mirror (so hatchbacks were involved later) an external off-side mirror was obligatory. (Either wing or door mounted). By the early 1980s the size and design of mirrors was regulated.
