Livery matches a 1957 Ferrai 335 S that was raced by Alfonso de Portago/Edmont Nelson in that year's Mille Miglia, but the front grille seems a bit too wide.

It's (a replica of) 0646 one of those that went through several configurations, 290S->315S->335S. We already have this here: /vehicle_85125-Ferrari-290-S-0646-1957.html

Some history from http://www.barchetta.cc/english/all.ferraris/detail/0646.290s.htm :

"0646 290 S... engine upgraded to 315 S specs 57/mar/23... engine upgraded to 335 S specs... 57/may/11-12... fat. acc... S+2.0.. Mille Miglia... Alfonso de Portago / Edmund Nelson (++)... #531 "BO 81825" prova... - car written off"

De Portago and Nelson never finish the '57 Mille Miglia.

Five hours into the race, De Portago and Nelson were 70km from the finish line when at speeds of 240km/h, a tyre blew on the vehicle, sending it into a telegraph pole and causing the vehicle to catapult over a brook and into one lot of spectators, and then sending the vehicle back over the brook and into another lot of spectators, before coming to rest.

As a result, both De Portago and Nelson and nine spectators were killed, including five children and injuring 20 others.

Of the five children, two were killed by a concrete marker that was ripped out by the impact of the vehicle.

De Portago's body was located near the wreck, completely severed in two.

In the aftermath of the crash, the Italian Government had banned all motor racing on public roads and had ended the annual running of the Mille Miglia.

The Italian Press had blamed the crash on Enzo Ferrari, stating that he was " willing to do anything to win, even scarifying innocent lives".

Even the Vatican official newspaper, Osservatore Romana had compare Enzo Ferrari to the Titan God, Saturn who in Roman mythology said to "ate his children" in order to "ensure his own survival".

De Portago and Nelson's accident was the second of four accidents in the 1957 Mille Miglia and the first of three to be fatal.

The first race car to crash was a private entrant Sunbeam Rapier No. 213 driven by the British female racing driver, Sheila van Damm and her co-driver, David Humphrey lost control when their vehicle came into contact some tramlines and crashed into a shop window.

Two hours after De Portago and Nelson were killed, another racing car, a private entrant, Triumph TR3 No. 309, driven by Dutch racing driver, Josef Göttgens, lost control in the wet and crashed into a tree near Florence.

Göttgens was taken to hospital where he died hours later of his injuries.

Another one killed was Italian Polizia Stradale Highway Patrol officer, Brigadiere Silvio Alessandrini who also lost control of his motorcycle in the wet and crashed.

..well as far as this race is concerned yes it was banned (resurrected in the 80s as a classic car drive, not a real race). However the slightly(?) less dangerous Targa Florio also on public roads (round Sicily) continued until 1973 as an international calendar race and up to the late 70s for local racing.
