What for a demonstration is in the background? Red flags and -as I can see- Lenin's head. Was there a Dutch communist party active in the past? |

Yes, communists were rather active especially in the three northern provinces (Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe). This is obviously Friesland (the Frisian flag is on the house on the left). |

The title character is sympathetic to labour movement in postwar Leeuwarden and joins the local communist party. Movie is pure fiction, I don't know if the 'Reds' actually had any relevance in the Netherlands that time. |
