Yes looks like very early one without ribs on rear panel. Merged (01:38:13, 1 ![]() ![]() |

As far as I know, the ribs on the rear panel was indicative of the deluxe option, as of the four door saloon model. The deluxe was introduced in October 1957 as of MY 1958, but I don't know if Carbodies of Coventry from then on always used the deluxe version as bas model or if they built both a standard and a deluxe? I have a friend who had a 1958 Consul Convertible. It had those ribs, but it also had a deluxe badge. |

My understanding is all Consuls got the ribs in Oct 56 to remedy a weakness in the panel where luggage in the boot moved around and caused dents from the inside. No idea if Carbodies only took Deluxes for conversion after its arrival, but seems likely. |

Actually all Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiacs got the ribs, but only the Consul de luxe had chrome bars on top of them. Normal early Mk2 Consul (post Oct 1956), albeit with the chromed rear light surround from an early Zephyr: Link to "static.wikia.nocookie.net" . Consul 'Low Line': Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" A early Mk2 Zephyr (post Oct 1956): https://bilweb.se/i?u=53803753&w=836&h=530&c=1 . Zephyr 'Low Line': Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" . The Zodiac had the bars hidden behind an aluminium panel. I happened to find this: https://live.staticflickr.com/8422/7846088314_1ae1871631_b.jpg , which is a Consul 375 Convertible without the chrome bars. I don't know what to make out of it. Non de luxe or have the chromed bars disappeared during restoration? -- Last edit: 2023-05-24 12:01:52 |
