Wonder if this is a Hitchcock reference or joke by the director Reiner. Lots of '58 Fords as background/police vehicles in North by Northwest. Very atmospheric movie with them. And if the traffic is back projected in studio, having it thematically synched is kind of Hitchcockian (Marnie). If that traffic is live, that's a whole different story, but still involves car selection. And the car itself? Stripped down it appears more Edsel-like, and being a 2-dr panel delivery it is hearse-like. Just my opinion. |
