Ford Ranchero, I guess? (instead of El Camino) -- Last edit: 2008-04-12 05:05:14 |

I always had it pegged as an El Camino, myself. |

I say 1977-1979 Ford Ranchero (built with the front clip from the LTD II) EDIT: With that two-tone paint scheme, I think it may be the 1979 model commemorating the end of Ranchero production. Can anyone confirm that? -- Last edit: 2008-04-12 05:38:03 |

The last Rancheros did share it's front end with the LTD II. With the 1977-79's you just had three versions; Ranchero 500, Ranchero GT, and Ranchero Squire. This one looks like it's got fake wood on the side, so it's the Ranchero Squire. FYI, I've seen people put the front ends of late-1970's Ford Thunderbirds on some Rancheros. I even saw some old couple 20 years ago who drove a Ranchero with a T-Bird grille, and a small fifth-wheel trailer. I wish I'd taken a picture of it. -- Last edit: 2008-04-12 16:10:37 |

I disagree; I don't think this is a Squire. Look at the coloring on the B-pillar. It looks like it has the same two-tone paint scheme as this Ranchero: Link to "jalopnik.com" Ranchero Squires looked like this: http://www.carcrazy.ca/images_cars/2007-06-19-16-43-45-lg.jpg According to Wikipedia, "Production ceased in 1979 with, among the traditional choices, a commemorative "1979½" model," and according to another source, "The last and final year of the Ranchero produced a limited edition 1979 ½ Ranchero with all leather interior, dash board, and special paint color and trim scheme." Unfortunately, I can't confirm what the "special paint color and trim scheme" looked like, but I think the one in the first link I posted may be one, if only because it doesn't match a 500, Squire, or GT. -- Last edit: 2008-04-12 20:12:49 |
