Now, this is just my opinion and it doesn't pertain to this entry solely, but I do not think Riviera should be part of the name for any pre-1963 Buick, as it's confusing and makes it difficult to search for Buicks of this era and it clutters up the list. It's the name of four body styles, not a separate model: the 4-door six window sedan (1951-1954), the 2-door hardtop (1949-1958), the 4-door hardtop (1955-1958) and the 4-door six window hardtop (1959-1962). |

Agreed, this has been bugging me for awhile. I'd guess this naming is a remain from way back in the beginning of the site, someone added it like this and then others where just added to match? Buick doesn't seem to treat Riviera as a model name for these years. In the 1954 brochures, for example, it says; "ROADMASTER 2-Door 6-Passenger RIVIERA, Model 76R" and "ROADMASTER 4-Door 6-Passenger RIVIERA SEDAN, Model 72R". I like to name vehicles exactly as it was written in the brochures, like 4-Door Sedan, Four-Door Sedan, Four Door Sedan and so on, I think it's the most correct thing to do. |

My mistake. It is sometimes difficult to know what to follow in terms of correct model names for Buick´s here. There are a lot of models listed on the site with Riviera in the model name field, so naturally I tend to follow this as well, without re-checking if this is in reality correct. For example, half of ´54 Roadmaster 2-door hardtop´s here are listed with ´Riviera´ as part of the model name. -- Last edit: 2022-01-02 20:53:45 |
