Looks like a 1950s British lorry, but other than that I have no idea. |

its a Swiss Army Saurer 8M 3 and half ton 8x8 cargo and prime mover..VERY rare vehicle built 1943-45, for towing the Swiss version of the German 10.5cm Howitzer..the truck was also built as a 6x6 as well...by mid 1944 only a total of 166 vehicles of both types had been delivered to the Swiss Army....at least one example survives!..hope it wasnt destroyed in filming. -- Last edit: 2007-11-18 13:57:02 |

To my knowledge at least two of the 87 built Saurer M8 (1944-45) are still in existance. http://www.arnoldweb.ch/motorfahrer/pdf/SaurerM8.pdf Also a few of the 365 built Saurer M6 (1940-44) are still around. http://www.arnoldweb.ch/motorfahrer/pdf/SaurerM6.pdf Even the prototype Saurer 4M (1939) survived. http://www.saureroldtimer.ch/medien/frame_center/ocs_fahrzeuge/4m.jpg Nice anecdote about the M6: http://www.swissmotor.ch/artikel/100_150/0129.htm (in German). It is very interesting to see an M8 in South Africa. Possibly the South African Army bought some when they were phased out of the Swiss Army ... but that is just guessing. Who knows more about that? |
