This a Willys CJ3A...(w/ b/o light added) impersonating a military M38. First glance is M38, however the soft top brackets are for CJ3A. |

Knowing the series was fimed in Spain this is a Jeep Viasa Cj3 |

So a new make: Jeep Viasa? |

I'd put jeep in model name, as we have done previously: /vehicles_make-VIASA.html |

This is a spanish army US-built M38. The Viasa was the license-built CJ3B. We had the original MB, some MC, the M38, M38A1, CJ3B, Viasa... Except for the M38A1, sooner or later most were re-engined with diesel engines from Perkins or Barreiros. |

But what about 4x4peru's comment about the CJ3A modified to look like a M38? |

The US built M38 had a unique top bow bracket. The top bow bracket style pictured here is of the US built CJ3A. The US M38 did not have the civilian drain slot as pictured here. The US M38 had two vertical metal straps on the center panel of the windshield not pictured here. Perhaps the Spanish army version was different? -- Last edit: 2007-12-21 18:18:22 |

I think 4x4peru is right, this a CJ3A, not the M38. We had them, too, in fact except for the M422 Mighty Mite we received every type of Jeep, by the most diverse channels and ways! Along the years a lot of them were rebuilt and parts exchanged, so there were a lot of "hybrids". |

It appears that the CJ-3A was imported in Spain, not built in Spain: http://cj3b.info/World/SpainHistory.html (contrary to the CJ-3B made by Viasa). So I think we should call the two we have here "Willys Jeep CJ-3A". |
