I first was in the USA in 1997 when they were already dead at least as taxis. I saw one in San Diego in dark blue. Many years before in 1989 I saw such a yellow cab in...Paris, France. |

Well I guess I'm not gonna be watching this movie. Checker taxis are super rare now. |

I’ve only seen one in real life. My local mall featured it as a showpiece for the Von Maur department store. Sad to see that most of these are now vanishing ![]() |

Maybe it was CG, maybe they did destroy all these cabs. We can only hope it was CG. Anyone found behind the scejne stuff? -- Last edit: 2019-12-03 03:45:07 |

Hard to believe that even the Hollywood vandals would gratuitously torch not one but THREE of these rare cars. They've sunk to their lowest low since they destroyed over 10 '58 Plymouths in the "Christine" movie. |

At least four are on fire in the above image, not counting at least two dumped in the water. |

Farthest one looks like it had no engine. "since they destroyed over 10 '58 Plymouths" - and saved more due to boost in popularity. By the way, Netflix isn't exactly a Hollywood. |

".....and saved more due to boost in popularity." Following that logic, imagine how many a "boost in popularity" would have saved it they had destroyed 500 of them. Beyond one, the effect is the same. -- Last edit: 2019-12-04 14:34:46 |

I'm not saying that. I'm saying, that before "Christine", nobody cared about '58 Plymouths, expect maybe diehard Mopar fans. And yes, it would be better if no cars wew destroyed. But without movie that used cars would probably ends up in junkyards and wreckers, as numerous other cheap clunkers. |

I totally disagree with your statement that before Christine "nobody" but diehard Mopar fans cared about '58 Plymouths. These and most all 1950's cars were greatly respected and collected by the antique car hobby representing many thousands of people. It's one of the reasons for the outrage in the collector community when word of what Hollywood had done got out. And again, the destruction of one was bad enough, but 14 of them?? -- Last edit: 2019-12-04 18:56:28 |

14 in various conditions... The movie increased their desirability and therefore probably did save a few, that's the other side of it. |

I bring you all what I think is good news: Link to "www.thewrap.com" "lovers of Checker Cabs may need to avert their eyes as these vintage vehicles, or beautifully-rendered CG versions of them, are pushed off piers or set on fire." Not sure if I'm reading this right, but that probably means they're CG. Really good CG, but still, CG. If they're not, holy shit. |
