So neat. Chile received the US spec hatchback but the Brazilian derived sedan!?!? That is a Brazilian 2-door sedan CKD kit. /vehicle.php?id=1354798 -here the plated ‘78 US spec hatchback. |

I think they received the US hatchback while building the Sedan in CKD until the introduction of the Brazilian hatchback, but I'm not totally sure. |

AFAIK, thanks to local sale sites and spotting groups, these are all the GM-T iterations you can find in Chile: - Chevrolet Chevette (BR), the 1990-92 models are common 'til now, 1980-1985 models are not so common, "Tubarao" 1975-1978 are becoming rare, some GP2 also exist. All of these were imported by authorized dealers back in the day, except for the 1977-1982 models, which were assembled in Chile. Marajós and Chevy 500 pickups were also sold, you can still spot the last one in the streets. - Chevrolet Chevette (US), mostly the 5-door hatchback. Most were imported brand-new, although it could be possible some may have come into the country in the early-mid 90's, when used US imports were the newest boom. (there are Plymouth Horizons imported in that period, along with other econoboxes, so nothing's impossible) - Isuzu Gemini (JP), 200-300 units were imported in 1977-1979 sold mostly in-between Army members, some GM dealers also offered Geminis as a "more refined" version of the Chevette + 4 doors, back when the 4 door BR model didn't exist. Coupes were also sold. - Saehan Bird (KOR), some were sold in the early 80's by an importer that proudly sold them as "Korean Opels", and well, some went as far as being registered as Opels (Opel Bird De Luxe). The Saehan MAX pickups were also sold here. - Opel Kadett C (D), a few exist in the country, mostly pre 1977 models, probably imported by individuals coming back into the country in the late 70's, wagon and sedan versions. - Holden Gemini (AUS), there's a photo of one abandoned in the Chilean north, spotted recently. I'm not so sure, but I think there's a Buick Opel around the country, too. I'll look it up, and if it's real, then i'll add it to the list |

Thank you for your great knowledge Serranita! I know I went through most of these almost a year ago. Please let me know if you see any discrepancies! I really love the South American car culture! Appreciate the insight ![]() |
