odd - a 1973+ MY (no vents in the C-pillar), but in silbermetallic. I cannot seen, that it's marathonmetallic.Maybe repainted. Quite usual for VWs of the early 70ies, as VW wasn't able to handle with metallic paint back then. |

Most K70s for the Italian market were in metallic colours. Türkiss, Marathon, Hellas, the blue whose name I cannot recall now. With Italian plate I can recall just one in white and one in Texasgelb, among the not metallic ones, both 1973+ models. -- Last edit: 2019-06-30 23:11:58 |

But Pastellweiß was also not uncommon for Italy. According the sales brochures all colours were available in Italy - but this means not much. I just see, that Volkswagen didn't used the colour names in the Italian brochures. It's just written "Bianco", "Giallo", "Blue metallizato"@electra225: thanks for the unwilling hint - annother detail, I didn't notice all the years...P.S. after a Swedish fellow gave me annother hint, we've found out, that green interior (only MY 1974) was available only in West Germany, neverwhere else. P.S.II: I'm irritated, because silbermetallic wasn't in the 1973 range any more. -- Last edit: 2019-07-01 23:27:43 |

Thank you, Ingo. I try just to remember what I saw at the time. I remember only cars that I liked a lot as in the case of the K70. |

I should add that the K70 was quite expensive here. So it is likely that the lucky customer could easily afford options like the metallic colours. In italy signal hues were not as common as in the rest of Europe. |

Ingo, many uears ago a friend of mine told me that the succes of signal colours in Germany were connected to the fact that insurance company there offered low prices in the case of cars in very brilliant colours. Is this true ? In this case why did it have a end in the early 80s ? |

No, it isn't. Back then in Germany the basic insurance contracts and tariffs were strictly regulated. It was not possible to offer discounts. The signal colours are one result of a public campaign for more safety in the traffic, caused by the fact, that in 1970 20.000 people died on the streets in West Germany (the historic peak). |

Naah, it wasn't so. We are talking about Volkswagen - signal colours cost extra charge as metallic paint. |

A Dutch club-fellow knows this English bloke. The car is just an empty shell, the only original interior parts are the door panels. |

^Somehow it reminds me that joke about Phaeton being true K70 successor. |
|

Well, the Passat was the successor of the Typ3 and both were placed a step lower than the K 70. |

Thank you very much for your kind answer. I would like to say that in Italy for some reason signal colours were not very poplar with few exception (the Fiat "Positano yello" and very few others). They were available but few people ordered them. The metallic ones were very sough after instead. I clearly remember that the very last Fiat 127 to be sold by the central Fiat dealership in Ancona in June 1977 was in a shade of yellow very signal and very much popular in your country. It was offered with a great discount and a friend of mine bought it. The same had happened with the very last Fat 850 Sport Spider in March 1973. |
