Looking at the top of the tanker it has 'Corrall' for the Mobil distributors. Corrall Transport Ltd. used AEC tankers so possibly an AEC Mammoth Major 8 here? Unable to confirm it currently for the Mobilheat tanker. |

The cab's appearance suggests a Thornycroft Trusty 8-wheeler. Only the rounded roof of the Trusty cab looks questionable, except from this angle its unlikely to be seen.![]() PK/QR6 - PK chassis replacing the earlier PF eight-wheeled chassis / new QR6 9.83-litre oil engine. -- Last edit: 2020-05-11 15:56:11 |

I had tried to find a picture of that cab all over, for the Australian vehicle, even looking in my “mickansue” Dinky Toys book, but no dice. Cheers. -- Last edit: 2020-05-11 14:14:16 |

^A new style of cab has been developed and this is to be standard on all the new Trusty maximum-load chassis. It is an all-steel assembly with a distinctive new radiator grille... Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" There was also a new (but more common on the web) steel-glass fibre/plastics for Swiftsure in late 1958 and, with dual headlamps, the Mastiff 6x4 (and 6x2?) in late 1959. edit A year after the 8x4 was introduced, the Trusty also with this cab, was in production as both a 4 and 6 wheeler for 1959. Early 1961 was the AEC-Thornycroft takeover with talk of rationalisation probably with the lighter Thornycroft trucks being dropped a year later? -- Last edit: 2020-05-12 11:49:25 |
