The full name of this special edtion is "British Open Classic", but the ones on the site are listed as either "British Open" ( /vehicle_54619-Rover-Mini-British-Open-ADO20-1992.html ), which is wrong, or "British Open II" ( /vehicle_441301-Rover-Mini-British-Open-II-ADO20-1995.html ) even though there's no "II" on the car's stickers. Could it be because of this page ? http://www.austinminiwebsearch.com/british%20open%202.html I've googled "Mini British Open II" and that was the main result, along with a couple of french second hand listings, and IMCDB links. I think this "II" isn't an official Rover designation, but just something informal that's been amplified over the years with the interwebs. Could we perhaps rename all of them as "British Open Classic" ? |

My Bumper Book of Minis uses all 3 names as official titles but is confusing, possibly because Rover made a mess of it. UK had one batch of 1000 cars in 1992 which was British Open Classic, although Rover sometimes called these just British Open in UK material. Export name was usually British Open, with a choice of the original UK green or in some countries black as well. It was so popular overseas it became a normal production item for several countries, and in July 93 became British Open II sold until Oct 96, although remained available for longer in D where the 13" wheel Sportpack option could be added and in I with additional Tahiti Blue and Nightfire Red choices. So it's a mess with different titles and dates in different markets and incomplete info where/when. Plus the sunroof became a regular option on other versions, meaning this special edition was no longer particularly special. I've no problem with a blanket renaming, but maybe just British Open is safer?? |

Well no, I remember the car from back then, and the stickers on the sides read "British Open Classic", just like on the photos I see now. Not "British Open" or "British Open II". Hence my doubts about the authenticity of these two designations. |
