The white one is a 440, the dark in the background is a V 40 - both Dutch made |

I've never seen a 440 in the flesh. From the angle of this shot I though it looked like an 850. Looking at it again, I can see it seems to be smaller than the 850's I've seen |

The 850 is much bigger and it's back is much longer. I think, the small Volvo's -the Dutch made- were never exported to America, am I right? In 1988 I was wondering very much, when I've seen in Vancouver a Volvo 343. I knew, that this car -from the history a "DAF 77" was never exported to Canada and the U.S. And I was also wondering about the strange dots and buckles everywhere on the car. But then I saw the reason: a sticker "München" -Munich- on the back. It was a private exported used car. And the bucklss were caused by the big hail-storm in Munich on the 12.July 1984, the most expensive hailstorm in the history. |

Ingo, you are correct. The 343's or 440's were never exported to the US however, we did have the S & V-40. -- Last edit: 2007-07-21 01:54:23 |

It was planned that the 480 would be sold in USA, but it was not the case finally. So it is one of the rare US-specs cars that was sold in Europe only (side markers and popup headlights to have these at the required height) -- Last edit: 2007-07-21 18:17:55 |
