See bold plate info. This one has a 17.16 grille badge, but same 2-11 SERIES N17 P16 reference as the 2.11 badged 1![]() Also the 24.21 badged 1 ![]() So are all these basically 2.11, with the other number combinations simply something to do with the refuse bodies rather than separate models?? |

Think I've cracked it with above clues , I believe they are body builders Seddon Allen Municipal ( SAM ) numbers and the first number refers to the gross weight in tonnes and the second to the body capacity in m3. The 24.21 listed above is a 6 wheel 24 tonner according to dvla and the smaller 4 wheel ones will gross at 17tes. So switch this 17.16 to 2.11?? And the 24.21?? (But not merging, due to different body builds and sub-numbers). Next question - is it SAM Colectomatic (see for instance the 3 Seddons and Seddon-Atkinsons in A Very Peculiar Practice or SAM Collectomatic as seen for instance in Exiv96's Maltese links above?? (This one is clearly Colectomatic, but Heil or Neil rather than SAM) |

Yes the four wheelers are a 2.11 which is the Sudden Accident ![]() The 24.21 is not a 2.11 but I don't know what it is at the mo. Are we talking about the L ? it's a single L. Only just noticed the Heil Colectomatic writing on the side of body upper front , so no doubt about that ![]() 'In 1973, Heil set up their own body manufacturing plant in Hillend in Scotland, (Hillend Environmental Industries Ltd., or HEIL) so that the bodies no longer had to be imported. This was in accordance with an agreement that when Jack Allen had sold 100 Heil units, an assembly plant to supply Jack Allen and the rest of Europe would be set up. Bit late but for the record, I think the 17.16 referred to Gross Vehicle weight, and Net engine HP divided by 10. So 17 tonnes with a 160hp engine. Likewise the 24.21 would be a 3 axle chassis, gross weight of 24 tonnes and 210 hp engine. In comparison today, I drive a 3 axle Volvo plated at 26 tonnes with a 370hp engine. |
