Door mounted seatbelts were introduced in 1990. The 1989 version had seatbelts mounted on the b-pillar.

What year did the Pontiac 6000 ended production? 1990 or 1991? there are no 1991 Pontiac 6000s listed on IMCDb.

Production ended in summer 1990. So this one is an 1990 only. The 6000 Safari wagon was still produced until 1991.

NADA lists 6000LE sedan and wagon, and 6000SE sedan

https://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/1991/Pontiac

There are none listed because there probably were no changes that year from 1990

This is the page from the 1991 Pontiac brochure:

Correct, sorry. I meant to say why, not what. :-)

Why is the car called the "6000"?

Pontiac was trying to make their new style cars seem more European, so they started with alpha-numeric names, which started with the T-1000 and then the J-2000, then the 6000. They were hoping these cars would capture younger buyers from buying Japanese and European cars and to separate them from the old style cars, like the Grand Prix, Bonneville and LeMans. It was short-lived as it alienated the traditional Pontiac buyers and sales continued to fall in the early 80s. When the W-bodies came to replace the A-bodies, Pontiac used the Grand Prix name as it had more name recognition.

As far as the 6000, it had the most Euro-style A-body with the STE models. It was the only one that offered ABS, a tuned-suspension and All-Wheel-Drive.

Car & Driver used to joke that the "6000LE" badge made it look like the car was the "Pontiac Goalie"

if GM had to relaunch the 6000 now the same joke would become " Google " ... :D
