"In the mid-1970s, the Jaguar factory supported two racing teams in the USA, that of Bob Tullius on the East Coast and Joe Huffaker on the West, both of which ran the new V12-powered Series 3 XKE. Tullius’s 'Group 44, Inc.' was one of the USA’s most successful road racing teams ever, amassing some 300 overall victories during the course of a 25-year career in SCCA, Trans-Am and IMSA GTP series. Its founder had started out racing his own Triumph TR3 in club events before setting up Group 44 in 1965 together with partners Dick Gilmartin and Brian Fuerstenau. British Leyland cars played a major role in the Group 44 story, Triumph being the team’s favored marque in its early years before a switch was made to Jaguar’s new V12-powered XKE. Corvettes had ruled the SCCA’s B Production class for years, but that all changed with the arrival of the white and green liveried Group 44 XKEs, Tullius taking the national championship for Jaguar three years consecutively from 1974 to 1976, in the latter season also driving an XJS coupé." - https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/15398/lot/413/?category=list |
