I dont think this is a Kadett, I think it´s the very similar Vauxhall Chevette. The black area on the rear was not common on Kadetts, I´ve only seen that on cars with more trim. This car is very basic and it might be chromed letters with the Chevette name between the rear lights.

It really looks like Chevette.

La seule vue d'extérieur du film, près de la fin, quand la femme de Pierre Brochant a un accident.

In the UK the base and 'L' models had body colour on the back panel. The 'GL' and 'GLS' were black as in the picture. For the saloon only a 'GL' version I think was produced not 'GLS'. (The most popular Chevettes were hatchbacks by some margin.)

The chrome letters spell out 'Vauxhall' and was common on all Vauxhalls from 1976 onwards, before that it was a small red badge. 'Chevette' would appear on the left-hand side of the boot lid (along with 'GL' etc.). The GLS and GL had imitation alloy/'Rostyle' wheels but I cannot see for certain what is on the movie car. Over-riders were only fitted to the bumpers on 'GL' as standard factory fit also.

Chevette 'GL' 4-door saloon from October 1978 to September 1979(when GL body side mouldings were introduced). Dates are true for the UK but I doubt the export market had extra models.

The Chevette saloons were introduced some time after the Hatchback because the Viva and Magnum [HC] body was discontinued in 1977/78 and the Chevette saloons were used as replacements.

DAF555, looking again at the picture and reading your comments again, I guess that both Vaxhall and Opel versions were produced and both would be very rare (as the highest level of trim for the Chevette or Kadett). In fact I doubt I saw more than a couple of examples of a Chevette GL 4-door saloon, and I lived in the area close to Vauxhall's main plant, Luton.

The one difference I remember is that the Kadetts had the car's number plate mounted above the rear bumper and it was always below the bumper on the Chevettes. The hatchback had a flat panel below the bumper for this purpose that was evident on the Opels even though it wasn't used. The Vauxhall Chevette saloons had a separate 'bolted-on' plate that was below the bumper.

In the picture there is no number plate below the bumper and the 'lettering' above the bumper could be a dark number plate on a black background. So if there is a possiblity this is a Kadett with a black rear panel and a high-mounted number plate, then I would say its more likely than it being a Chevette.

Encore une bonne raison pour que ce soit une Kadett C: la Vauxhall n'a pas été importée en France. Et si la scène a été tournée en France, alors...

I agree jplemoine, I think a Vauxhall Chevette in France in very unlikely, either exported or without a UK number plate.
