In the making of this movie they actually use Heavily Modified Escorts for a couple of the Anglias

The flying Ford Anglia has always been amazing me. One of the reasons is the fact that it has two-tone paint of the 1962-65 Anglia Super 123E, but the trunk is one off an Anglia DeLuxe. Assuming that the paintwork is original, and the trunk's not, maybe it should be listed as a 1962 Ford Anglia Super [123E].

An Anglia Super has chrome trim on the top and bottom edges of the side flash, and the front end of the side flash ends at a point; it also has wheel trim rims behind the hubcaps and a 1200 badge on the panel beside the rear number plate. The single chrome side trim on a deluxe has an upward link at its front end to the top of the headlight (as 2nd thumb). So this is a deluxe [105E] with a painted side flash and none of the Super features. 7990TD does not show on plate check sites, but was issued in Lancashire May - October 62. imdb says "The Weasley's car is a Ford Anglia... same colour and model that JK Rowling and her best friend from school used to ride around in when they were younger. She used the car for the book, and later the movie, out of her fond memories driving in it." Does this explain the plate as well, or is there a coded significance?

1966 lookalike - different plate and has 1965/66 grille and separate minor lights. Also has wheel trim rings, unlike main photo and thumbs. A nice example, but unlikely to be a real film car unless they used a lot of them.

An early Anglia with 1960-65 grille and minor lights. Has wheel trim rings, unlike main photo and thumbs. Could be a real film car if they used a lot of them.

this is a deluxe model notice the mirrors are at the hood not at the side of the car witch is rare for this year i have learned that this is most identical to 1964 ford anglia deluxe 105e sedan

As far as I can make out, all the film shots have the round badge on C-pillar which was a bodywork pressing change on all Anglias when the Super 123E arrived in Oct 62. Also seen on both the museum display cars in valiant1962's postings. However the National Motor Museum Beaulieu display car seen in June 2011 is an Oct 65 to Sept 66 car with orange indicators and separate sidelights (and looks like a different registration). All the other sightings have the previous white indicators where this is visible, so if 14 cars were used during filming, they all seem to fall into the Oct 62-Sept 65 spec and might just creep into the end of the date range for a genuine 7990 TD plate (May-Oct 62).

Question for our English veterans: how exactly Anglias like this were viewed and treated in early 1990s?

GodzillaFan54 CA

I like to think that this movie gave the 1959-'67 Anglias some much-needed attention with young people. By 2002, they were probably thought of nothing more than just one of many other classic English cars until this movie caused a Back to the Future effect; now you can't see an Anglia from this time and not think of Ron Weasly's troublesome flying car

I heard one of the cars used in filming was stolen from a warehouse in 2005 by a rabid fan and was later recovered near a castle (sadly not Hogwarts) in 2006. Ironic that a car depicted as being stolen in the film was later stolen in real life.
