Who would have thought it - a rusty Lancia?? Used to have a vinyl roof which was unusual - maybe a UK-only option (dealer-fit??). Grey velour seats and coachline suggest S2, but it's not the 1979 Tickford Hi-Fi upgrade to clear 300 unsold S2s, which had tacky twin gold coachlines, front and rear tacked-on spoilers, and black alloys amongst other bits, but no vinyl roof. "The special Beta Coupè Hi Fi version was a limited edition cosmetically treated by Tickford. Produced in 1979 in 300 pieces and only sold in UK. Painted in special metallic colours with gold stripes on the sides. Front and rear spoiler, 185/65 tyres Pirelli P6. The HI FI name was due to the special sound system made by Voxson." "The result was that Lancia was left with a number of unsold vehicles, including the Beta Coupe. Many of these were simply parked up disused airfields, exposed to the elements. This would take its toll on any car. On a Lancia Beta, the results would be catastrophic. .... The solution was the Beta Coupe Hi-Fi. However the cars were already rusting by the time Tickford got hold of them, many had been sat dormant in their airfield homes for up to two years. Only 300 were ever produced, but only a small number of these will have survived the end of the decade." |
