Too bad it gets so damaged. It would be interesting to know how many Mustangs were used in the movie. In the fiction, the car still runs after all the crashes it's involved in, but I'm quite sure that they needed more than one car for the filming.

Five. Apparently all were destroyed shooting the opening sequence.

I don’t think it’s a 1969 Boss 429 as certain sections of the interwebs would have you believe, it looks more like a 1969 Mach 1 owing to the bonnet pins on the car.
Granted, the two do look very similar

Quote 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1
Chassis no. 9T02M168028
• Screen-used throughout the opening sequence of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), including the successful warehouse jump and following chase scenes
• Built in Los Angeles by a professional stunt car company for Jerry Immersi / Immersi FX (New Jersey), supplier of vehicles for the John Wick franchise
• Number 4 of 5 Mustangs built for the production
• Driven by Keanu Reeves in the film's opening chase sequence
• A genuine 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 (M-code) powered by a 351ci V8—an authentic car, not a replica or clone—disguised to match John Wick's black '69 Mustang from the first film
• After the first jump car was destroyed during filming, this example was modified with its roof rig removed and used to complete the successful jump scene and subsequent chase footage
• Equipped for stunt work with reinforced chassis, internal roll cage, upgraded suspension, and quick-release body panels
• Retains on-set evidence including roof screw holes and underbody camera mount points
• Accompanied by an official Certificate of Authenticity from Immersi FX (New Jersey)
• Acquired by Movie Cars Central from a private collector in Tennessee, who purchased it directly from Immersi FX following production

Originally built on 28 January 1969 at Ford's Metuchen plant, this Mustang Mach 1 was specified as a two-door SportsRoof model with the 351ci 4V V8 engine, finished in Black Jade with matching black knit vinyl Mach 1 Hi-Back bucket seats. Factory options included a 3.25 Traction-Lok rear axle, FMX Select Shift automatic transmission, power front disc brakes, and power steering—details verified by the accompanying Marti Report.
Later acquired by Jerry Immersi for the production of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), the car was extensively modified for stunt work, including the installation of a roof-mounted driving rig for precision camera coordination and complex chase choreography. When the first stunt Mustang was destroyed during the failed warehouse jump, this car was adapted—its roof rig removed—and used to complete the successful take seen in the final cut of the film. It also appears in subsequent chase scenes, identifiable by its missing driver's door and visible continuity damage.
Mechanically, it remains a genuine M-code Mach 1 with its original 351ci V8 engine, reinforced chassis, and roll-caged interior. Visible traces of filming, including screw holes on the roof, underbody rig mounts, and subtle production reinforcements, all confirm its direct use on set.
This authentic 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is one of the most significant surviving stunt vehicles from John Wick: Chapter 2, directly linked to Keanu Reeves and the franchise's most memorable opening sequence.
Offered with its Marti Report, Certificate of Authenticity from Jerry Immersi, exported US title, and 846A customs document. Although previously driven across the United States by the Movie Cars Central team, the car will require recommissioning before road use: the oil pan (a new replacement is supplied) must be installed, and the front suspension realigned following impact sustained during filming.
