I'd like to think the salesman showed him a 6000STE but he's not ready to move on from the Brougham Era yet, and won't be for several years to come. But even though he could probably afford something like that Lincoln the neighbors across the street have (it's mentioned he makes a 6-figure salary in 1985), he's just not that flashy.
