Austin rear badge, 1948 Wakefield plate - possibly the only clue where this was filmed. Is the body likely to be similar to ambulance builds?? |

The body. particularly in the cab and cab roof areas, looks to be basically the Austin K30 30cwt Van, overall size and proportions both body and chassis are the same. /vehicle_736666-Austin-K30-1944.html Its possible the front has been changed similar to this... /vehicle_719608-Austin-K2-Ambulance-1948.html |

Glad this has been ID'd - it felt like a good one at the time. |

Only just found it today dsl! However as you pointed out it has the Austin badge at the rear and I recognised the cab roof and doors, there is little chance I think that it was based on a saloon car chassis. The only other Austin of this size from 1947 was the later three-way K8 and its not that. I guess its possible it was a refurbished wartime vehicle because of sales restrictions on new vehicles for anything other than export. If it really was a police or prison van those restrictions may not have applied. |
