It has a Mercedes-Benz hood ornament in the second thumbnail. |

I`d say Dsl is right. Some Kompressor Benz, probably indeed a 540 K aka W29. |

Also seen here - /vehicle_467150-Mercedes-Benz-540-K-Spezial-Roadster-W29-1936.html No trace found for one with DXP 279. Seems only 26 540K Special Roadsters were built. plus some 500 K. This is apparently the the high-door, long-tail version with exposed spare wheels and tyres built into the rear deck, and with RHD must be a known car somewhere, even as a non-survivor. Does not seem to be Chassis #154086, sold by Mercedes-Benz UK in 1937 to Sir John Chubb (famous locks family), which was later converted to LHD, became part of the Bernie Ecclestone Collection in 1995, and sold for £3.9 million in Aug 2007 - its original UK registration was DYX 911 - http://www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=192371 , /vehicle_153913-Mercedes-Benz-540-K-Spezial-Roadster-W29-1937.html . It's also not the famous discovery of a derelict in a butcher's lock-up garage in Walsall in 1988, which was a 1936 500K, registered CXT 20 - http://www.peachparts.com/500k1936.htm . Best list of these 500K/540K Spezial Roadsters I can find is this account. I would not exclude 500 K for this one, but on the pictures I've seen 500K tended to have no pipework on bonnet sides. |

Google's Deep AI search insists this car is a Cabriolet B (very different) not a Roadster Also insists after being asked specifically that this car with this reg. number has no film appearances (we know of at least 3) They better speed up their research and development work up there at Google! In other news this https://mbw29.my.canva.site/#page-c site lists this car as a 1936 but for further info asks for ... wait for it... 1565 euros ! What should barchetta be asking for having complete histories of cars like GTO's and such I wonder.. In the end I could only find 2 pics that lead to nowhere -- Last edit: 2026-02-20 01:20:19 |
