My late Escort bible does not mention it, although may not fully capture all the late names for every market and does not specifically mention Spanish versions. Various final sporty names in Europe include XR3i, GT, GTi, Sport, Si, and RS (simply a trim pack on Benelux Zetecs from 1998). -- Last edit: 2023-01-27 13:41:46

In fact, the Ford Escort XRi was one more trim level that came to replace the Sport, both in three and five doors. It was the 1.8 Zetec-E in its 115 PS version, inherited from the Mondeo [...] the Escort XRi's main feature was the good value for money. In 1997 it costed 2,100,000 pesetas (20,000 euros today), well below its rivals of similar performances. The standard equipment was not abundant, having to tap into the options to make it more complete, since ABS, passenger airbag or alloy wheels were paid separately.
