If you take a closer look you might see that this one has a centre (cromed steel) hubcap with chrome (aluminium) embellishers while the 1968+ ones was one single stainless steel hubcap.
The hubcaps above were common on the upmarket versions of the [W110]. That is 230 S like this one Link to "www.cardomain.com" or 190 like this one http://wiki.mercedes-benz-classic.com/index.php/Datei:190dcu.jpg.
I think the 190/230 also make sence as the pictured one is rather a 13" rims instead of [W108] which all had 14" rims.
Also the bumper (only one is visible) is more flat on the corners on the [W110] compare with the two "round" ones of the [W108] or [W109].

Edit: I forgot to mention the head lights.
If vertical they might come from a [W111], but that doesn't neccesary mean it's the same car as the wheels...
