I hope Mr. Melvin leaves the country alive. |

This is not the problem there. If your behaviour as a tourist is not according the local rules, you have to leave earlier. Which I will avoid in every case, because this would be wasted money (a lot of wasted money, because DPRK-trips are expensive). But as an US-citizen he had a more restricted access than other citizens. South Korean people are not allowed to go there at all, except the special trips to the Kumgang mountains. |

Curtis Melvin now runs a blog called North Korea Economy Watch: http://www.nkeconwatch.com/ The South Korean government suspended the Kumgang tours in 2008 after a tourist was killed by a North Korean soldier, and North Korea has now expropriated the resort: http://www.nkeconwatch.com/2011/12/13/13465/ -- Last edit: 2012-09-18 11:03:57 |

The area is accessible again from the North Korean side. It's in our schedule, too. |
