They have KNOWN it Sorry, for quoting myself, but this anecdote was outsourced in the archive: Sounds similar like the stories, a friend has told me about the Jaguar XJ, his father had as a company-car (in the early 80ies, the Jag was IMHO a late Series II, a 12cyl, too) Fantastic ambiente, especially inside: leather-seats, wood on the dashboard, wollen carpets, real chrome, etc. - but the clunker never worked and had breakdowns every week. It became so worse, that -no kidding- the faboulous Jaguar was only used inside the village, by the mother, for driving to the ALDI - because it was a distance, she could walk back on foot, when the car was defect again. What did my friend's father? He took his wife's Audi 50 for business-trips, or the family car, a rusty K 70 The bosses and partners were really pissed about his choice, but the only answered, that the only thing, which counts for him was, that he could come from A to B - without dozens of defects

dsl ◊ 2020-12-13 14:55	What do we adjust it to? If first NZ reg was Jan 65, and it arrived after being previously registered overseas, its actual age is unclear. Or it's a genuine 65 which arrived in NZ new (which is perfectly possible from the pictured detail - there were no visible changes 1960-67) and has had the previous overseas box wrongly answered.
dhill_cb7 ◊ 2020-12-13 15:26	I wasn't sure if the original chassis number would provide an actual MY. https://www.jaguarheritage.com/files/mark_i___ii_etc__chassis_numbers.pdf indeed a 1965 by that PDF? Decoded original chassis: 118393 would be RHD in the 1965 year range with the 2.4 litre engine which the plate check all matches up with.
dsl ◊ 2020-12-13 15:36	So made late 64 by the chassis numbers, which is inevitable for a Jan 65 reg in NZ, and maybe given a temporary export reg for a month or two use in eg UK before shipping?? Seems plausible and we did have that sort of registration scheme as a tax-free loophole for foreign visitors, and allows all NZ plate details to be correct.
