GL. I was promised there'd be one with a white vinyl roof in this series.

Although the first series is from 1990, the cars in it makes it seem older (don't really remember often seeing things like Hillmans, Austin Allegros and Maxis on the road much when I was little, only remember Ford Sierras and stuff like that)

Indeed... I think as some of the characters are old people they had older cars as they tended to drive very little and hold on to them for a while. That said by the next series the Meldrew's had a fairly recent model Fiesta.

That is a trait with some old people, like my grandad with his 20+ year old Audi that he used to have (he suffers badly with "doesn't want to throw things out" syndrome), but then there's old people who decide to drive new small Japanese cars like my other grandpa (who doesn't know much about cars).

It's hugely recommended to keep these cars in mind, when you searching for one four your own use. ;) The very most of those are the best choice!

The appealing "only one old lady owner" factor.

Anybody want a low mileage Audi A4 Avant, one old owner, me?

Replace "appealing" with "most important" ;)

From what I remember I think Victor only drives this car in this episode, am I right?

Yes. In two scenes.

The only cars I remembered him driving before I watched these episodes for vehicles were the pale Honda and the Nissan with the rude numberplate that he had to get changed.

Just clicked on that video you put on the main page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mraGKg25ok Now I know why they chose this particular car ("Victor Meldrew, the crimson avenger"), that's quite a good joke :D

Late reply, I know, but...

I recall seeing "older" vehicles on the road back in the '90's when I was a lil' kid. In my town (I'm from "up north") not many people could afford newer cars back in the early-mid nineties (many lost their jobs due to the mines and mills closing down, for example). I recall seeing several early-mid '70's cars such as old Ford Cortinas and the odd Granada, old Mini Clubmans, the occasional Marina, Allegro, Maxi, Chevette, Fiesta MK1's, old Rovers etc as well as a lot of early '80's cars such as the usual Escort MK3's, Cavalier's, Astra Mk1's, Metro's, Reliant Robins and so on. Back then it was more common to see old rotting cars in gardens (not so much now, much cleaner up here today), sometimes you'd see '60's cars such as Morris Minors and Hillmans even older than this one back then. My folks had "older" cars then, too. :D These days though even some '90's cars are becoming "rare", or are even considered to be "collector's items".

I heard the bbc couldn’t find a red avenger & had this one painted red just so the crimson avenger joke would work.

I remember you could still see maxis & allegros around in 1990 but avengers were getting hard to see.
