It’s not technically a K-10. The rear tailgate has the small linear "Fuel Injection" badge, making it a 1987 model. Since 1987 was the last model year for the conventional cab pickups, this also means fuel injection is unique to only 1987 models. As a result, they are highly soughtafter by interested collectors. This is IMCDb’s first GM V-Series conventional cab pickup. The conventional cab was GM’s linchpin in the full-size truck market, and it is also why the rounded-line generation is widely considered to have ended with the 1987 models. We have an R-Series (R-10) conventional cab here. The last one to be built at the Flint manufacturing plant. Flint closed when production of the R/V-Series conventionals ceased. A lot of GM’s manufacturing plants that were dedicated to these full-size pickups, ended-up closing. |

I'm willing to bet it might be an American model in Mexico. It's definitely not a Mexican-spec truck by the looks of it. |

The 1987’s are said to be the "educated" or "smart" rounded-lines. This due to all the electronics that were introduced. A unique operational characteristic of a 1987 model pickup is an audible high-pitched whine that can be easily heard coming from between the cab and pickup box. New electric fuel pumps were added for '87 when ETBFI was added. There are usually two pumps, but pickups that had the dual fuel tank option had three electric fuel pumps, one pump per tank, plus the one for the engine. The pumps are precharged before the starting cycle is performed. They are the source of the whine. -- Last edit: 2011-06-12 04:02:37 |

Nice details Neptune. I very often forget the few years that GM stopped calling the C/K series C/K. The half ton 4x4 was R-10? The 2wd V-10? Or the other way around? |

R replaced C and V replaced K. |

Indeed, V designates a 4x4. In this case, the pickup has shift-on-the-move four-wheel drive with two-speed dual range transfer gearbox and permanent 50/50 torque split for maximum tractive effort. The chassis number would be CV10703 for the 117.5" wheelbase. I located pretty much all of the rounded-line genaration’s chassis numbers through the "How to identify, Select and Restore Collector Light Trucks and El Caminos" book. There is a lot of useful information in that book. |
