[K11] The ultimate old geezer car... |

Both ends of the spectrum - driving school car and 17 year olds as well. |

In Germany not really. Here the Micra is the typical teenie-girl-car. In the past Opel (Kadett, Ascona, Vectra) had a strong reputation as old-people-cars, nowadays it's the Mercedes A-Klasse. Where Mercedes Benz is not amused about, because their plan was, to relase the A-Klasse as a young, modern Mercedes for younger people. But the pensioner-fraction was very interested in it since the first day, because the seat-position is high and the car is short and can be maneuvered very easy. These were the reasons for my parents to buy an A-Klasse, after the old familiy-Passat Variant was exhausted. P.S.The ultimate Granma-cars in the 70ies were the DAFjes ![]() |

@ingo: The B-Klasse is also an old-people-car. But today is the prototype of the new Mercedes A-Klasse in AutoBild. It looks very sporty and it hasn´t got the sandwich floor like the 1. and 2.gen. A-Klasse. -- Last edit: 2011-04-08 14:50:15 |

.... and it has not got any side windows either, just slits. I've seen pictures in UK magazines and it's a rival for the Juke/Pontiac Aztek/Ssangyong Rodius in the Desperate Styling Competition. |

To come away from this old-people-reputation, Mercedes had dropped the 4-door-version at the last facelift. A guy working at Mercedes Benz, has told it to my parents, also that they don't want to produce the plushy comfort-version any more, rather more sportive trim lines. My parents car is also sportive, an A 210. Unwillingy sportive, because when they bought it as 3-year-old, it was the only available A-Klasse with automatic transmission and liftable passenger's seat. Realy powerful and fast, but I'm always mad about the ugly boy-racer-styled alloys with low-section-tires, though they had been a really expensive original feature, when the car was new. This is annoying uncomfortable and causes pain in the butt. Yes, I'm preferring the plushy old-daddy-sofa-haemorrhoid-protecting-seat-and suspension-comfort ![]() Indeed a reason, why this unique car will probably not my next one: http://forum.imcdb.org/index.ks?page=forum_topic&id=6306&index=1 The failure of comfort is indeed the biggest problem for me The rest as price, rarity, freak-factor, is perfect for my actual demands. -- Last edit: 2011-04-08 15:47:21 |

I saw the pictures too. I've forgotten what it looks like though. Mercedes are just not young people's cars. They aren't for me aspirational products any more even. The only place I've seen lots of B-Klasse is Belgium. I have no idea why that is. |

They tried it with the A-Klasse, but they failed. And they are unhappy, because so many older customers (at least in Germany) have chosen this model and not the more profit-spending C- and E-Klasse. |

To coming back to the girl-car Micra: it should be easy to make a photo-collection of girlish-styled Micras In my village there is one with pink seat- and dashboard-covers, next to my office annother, fully loaded with all kind of "Hello Kitty"-stuff (seat covers, sunshields, stickers, puppets...) |

GX is quite a high spec for a Micra, these come with electric front windows, remote central locking, power steering as standard and include extras such as rear speakers, CD-player, floor mats etc.... There a fair few Micras around here, some girly ones with pink tat added to it, but this also happens to KAs and what have you. Many are used as cheap family cars or take-away delivery vehicles. |
