I just watched the movie "Girl Crazy" for the first time today,2015-03-01on TCM.I looked at the 1932 Phaeton and noticed the 31 style wheels and tires.Being this movie was made during the war the tire situation due to lack of tires, may have influenced the wheel selection.I believe this is one of the original MGM studio cars they ordered new.You can see the faint circle outline and mounting holes for the MGM plaque in the drivers door. This or other 32 phaetons were used by MGM in different movies including i believe the Twilight Zone episode in the 60's.The studio was known to retain prop vehicles for a long time prior to the auction in the later 60's.There is another Mickey Rooney film where a 32 phaeton appears with Mickey called "The Atomic Kid". |
