Regarding the "Reagan for President!" sticker: "...referring to Reagan's failed 1968 Republican presidential nomination campaign, the bumper sticker was edited out of a broadcast version of the film which aired on at least one cable channel during or after the Reagan administration." Link to "www.gradesaver.com" It's taken directly from the book: "She applied her power brakes, and a Mercedes slammed into her from behind. Nobody was hurt, thank God, because both drivers were wearing seat belts. Thank God, thank God. The Mercedes lost only a headlight. But the rear end of the Cadillac was a body-and-fender man's wet dream. The trunk and fenders were collapsed. The gaping trunk looked like the mouth of a village idiot who 'was explaining that he didn't know anything about anything. The fenders shrugged. The bumper was at a high port arms. 'Reagan for President!' a sticker on the bumper said. The back window was veined with cracks. The exhaust system rested on the pavement." (Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut) Also censored in the Soviet adaptation: "Most dramatically, the Soviet authors obliterate every trace of Billy's vaguely right-wing sympathies. There are no bumper stickers on his Cadillac reading "Support Your Police Department," "Impeach Earl Warren," "Reagan for President." (Russia: broken idols, solemn dreams by David Shipler) |

I would hope that a '68 Cadillac wouldn't actually recieve that much damage upon a rear-end collision with a much smaller Mercedes! |
