This scene was the reenactment of the murder of Bureau Of Investigation (BOI) Special Agent Willis "W. Carter" Baum who was shot by Baby Face Nelson two miles from the Little Bohemia Lodge near Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In reality, Special Agent Baum along with another BOI agent and a local constable, travelling in a unmarked car were responding to a report of a disturbance two miles from the lodge when they saw a car that the constable had recognized to belonging to a local resident and decided to approached it. As they drove closer and then pulled along the side of the vehicle, Nelson asked who the officers were and when one of the agents identified himself, Nelson produced his semi-automatic pistol and order all three out of the vehicle and then as the agent got out, Nelson opened fire on him, grazing him in the head and knocking him unconscious, before continuing to fire, killing Baum and wounding the constable. A later investigation had revealed that the safety catch on Agent Baum's service weapon was still on. -- Last edit: 2026-01-05 19:22:04 |
